The local unit of South Africa’s SABMiller has lowered lager beer prices by up to 11% to drive volumes ahead of the festive season after registering an 8% drop in volumes for the quarter ending June compared to prior quarter.

In response to the sagging demand, Delta Beverages yesterday announced that it had reduced mainstream beer prices across the pint (375ml) and the quart (750ml) packs for mainstream brands Castle Lager, Lion Lager and Carling Black Label with effect from October 1.
The price of the popular pint and quart packs has been reduced from $0,90 to $0,80 and $1,55 to $1,50 respectively, the company said.
“We are delighted to announce this price change ensuring that we enhance beer affordability for our hard working consumers. It is our sincere hope that our consumers will be happy with the early cheer ahead of the festive season.” Delta Beverages General Manager for Lager beer business unit, Munyaradzi Nyandoroh said in a statement.
