THE embarrassing incident where President Robert Mugabe read the wrong speech during the official opening of the Third Session of the Eighth Parliament this month has provided rich material for local comedians, as witnessed during the ongoing Shoko Festival on Thursday afternoon.

The gaffe scaled new heights when it was subtly incorporated into hilarious outfit Zambezi News’ performance that poked fun at the 91-year-old strongman.
The group feasted on the embarrassing incident during their live performance.
When they appeared on stage, Sam “Cde Fatso” Munro opened the session by reading a prepared speech welcoming the audience.
“Welcome to Shoko Festival 2014,” he said before one of the comical news presenters, Mandape Mandape, alerted him that he was reading last year’s speech, much to the delight of the audience.
In their trademark rib-cracking style, the crew ridiculed the mushrooming of political formations in the country, including former Vice-President Joice Mujuru’s People First.

The Zambezi News crew performed during the comedy session that also saw South African comedian Tol Ass Mo sharing jokes that courted peals of laughter from the audience.
