This follows reports that Mbewe died mysteriously in his holding cell last Wednesday following his arrest on theft charges. The family has since refused to collect his corpse from hospital demanding an inquest into his death.

“We are still deliberating. As of now we are gathered as a family and we are trying to find common ground as some are suggesting that we dump the body at his [workplace] council offices or at the police station,” said the deceased’s elder brother who refused to be identified by name.

“We cannot say what we are going to do with the body, but we had initially planned to bury him either on Wednesday so we will know after we have finished with family consultations.”
