ZANU PF has doled out 5 000 residential stands to its supporters in Marondera to prop up its Marondera Central parliamentary candidate Lawrence Katsiru’s profile ahead of the September 16 by-election.

Addressing party supporters at Rudhaka Stadium at the launch of Katsiru’s campaign on Tuesday, Zanu PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere said government had identified 300 hectares outside Marondera town where servicing of the land would begin next week.
“We realised that there is land lying idle in Marondera and now that we have said no to land barons, council will dish out stands to the people,” said Kasukuwere, who doubles as Local Government minister.
“We identified 300ha of land that will be serviced beginning next week.”
He said the stands would be sold at $500 each with prospective home owners expected to pay $11 registration fees to Marondera Town Council.
The Marondera Central seat fell vacant after former Zanu PF provincial chairman Ray Kaukonde was booted out of both Zanu PF and Parliament on allegations of conniving with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru to topple President Robert Mugabe.
Katsiru, who is the Zanu PF provincial secretary for administration, will battle it out with opposition candidates Wadzanai Mabika (National Constitutional Assembly), Solomon Makaza (Transform Zimbabwe) and Kingdom Nyika (Freedom Front Party). The opposition MDCs have boycotted the polls demanding sweeping electoral reforms.
