Kamanura was not asked to plead when she appeared before magistrate Tilda Mutambanashe and was remanded on free bail to September 15.

Harare Magistrates’ Court

Prosecutor Richard Makondo told the court that Kamanura, of Unit N, Seke, Chitungwiza, had become a regular customer at Edgars Stores because of her new status as a beauty queen, but was arrested on Tuesday after she allegedly walked out without paying for the jumpsuit at the shop’s branch at corner Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and First Street.

The State alleges Kamanura picked up three dresses and took them to the dressing room and later came out holding only two, which she duly returned to the hangers.

An alert security guard searched her handbag at the exit point and recovered the suit.

During interrogation, Kamanura allegedly claimed that she had bought the item at Edgars Joina City branch, but had no receipt for it.

The guard went into the fitting room where she recovered the price tag for the same dress on the floor, leading to the model’s arrest.
