The competition will feature Under-14 teams led by former Zimbabwe cricket captain, Heath Streak playing against another side led by former Under-19 national Kylie Bowie and Matabeleland Tuskers’ Cunningham Ncube.

In a statement, chief executive officer of the academy Joseph Rego said, the competition will usher in the Old Mutual Cricket League, which will cater for various age groups.

“To celebrate the welcoming on board to our family old Mutual as “title sponsors” to the Heath Streak Cricket Academy, a T20 Cricket Extravaganza and “fun day” is being organised on Wednesday, September 2, from 2pm onwards. “The T20 games mark the beginning of the Old Mutual Cricket League organised for various age groups to scout talented cricketers who would be able to represent the country at international level,” he said.

Rego said cricket equipment for children will be on offer at affordable prices from Rohan Sports.

“It is important to keep the interest of cricket in the hearts of targeted youth. Therefore, to promote the growth and development of cricket in this country, cricket kit should be offered to children at very special prices, making cricket equipment affordable to children who love the game,” he said.

The academy recently launched a grassroots cricket development programme and appointed national team cricketer, Chris Mpofu and Tuskers’ Ncube as coaches.
