GDP is a local non-governmental organisation, which has lined up programmes aimed at bridging the information gap by providing relevant information to rural communities to necessitate eradication of poverty.

In an interview with NewsDay, the Wanga singer said he was excited to be chosen and pledged to work hard towards promoting growth and development in underdeveloped societies.

“I’m very excited. I’ve worked with a lot of organisations before and it is a good thing to be part of something like this as it promotes growth and development,” he said.

Wataffi, who spent his childhood in the rural areas, said the endorsement had come at a time when he was already helping the underprivileged in rural communities on a small scale through his Qaya Foundation’s Mentorship Initiatives.

“We’ve always been helping communities on a small scale and now our work is complementing what GDP is doing. I’m excited that we can be able to help without much constrains and at a greater scale,” he said.

Famous for his hits that scooped multiple awards from the albums, Zhizha and Qaya Roots, released back in 2007 and 2009 respectively, the singer is well-known for penning heart-throbbing lyrics with a message.

GDP’s marketing and corporate communications officer Lois Nyathi-Mazivanhanga said they were glad to have Wataffi.

She said the singer’s presence would help in disseminating information faster to empower many communities.

“The appointment of Willis Wataffi as GDP’s goodwill ambassador signifies our broad recognition of various sectors as vital for influencing development in communities,” she said.

“Within the time we will be working with him we foresee a great achievement in terms of reaching out to communities we will be serving.”
