The United African National Council (UANC) says Heroes’ Day celebrations are now irrelevant as Zanu PF had, monopolised the whole concept of heroism.

UANC president Nesbert Mtengezanwa told NewsDay the celebrations must be shunned by all Zimbabweans until a time when an independent body was chosen to confer hero status in a non-partisan manner.

“President Robert Mugabe even said kakomo aka ndeke Zanu PF (this hill belongs to Zanu PF) and so other Zimbabweans not affiliated to that political party have no reason to call it a National Heroes’ Acre,” he said.

Mtengezanwa said Zanu PF had monopolised the celebrations that were supposed to be national.
