HARARE City progressed to the second round of the Chibuku Super Cup after a comfortable win over Buffaloes at Rufaro Stadium in Harare yesterday.

William Manondo’s second-minute goal and three second-half goals by James Jam (55’), Arnold Chivheya (58’) and substitute Kuda Kumwala on 78th minute settled the match.

Buffaloes pulled one back through Jacob Muzokomba on 66th minute.

Harare City assistant coach Mike Madziva said he was happy that they managed to beat their bogey side who have beaten them five times in their past seven meetings, while Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka blamed the thrashing on poor defending by his team.

City came off the blocks flying and threatened straight from kickoff when a through ball found Martin Vengesayi, who was pulled down as he approached the penalty box. The resultant kick was wasted.

Moments later, they opened the scoring. Buffaloes goalkeeper Hopewell Bere made a mess of a ball from a corner-kick and Manondo punished him with an acrobatic effort.

Buffaloes almost restored parity on 8th minute, but Barnabas Mushunje dragged his shot wide after he had been set up by Farai Banda.

But it was City who sought to put the game to bed as the half wore on and the closest they came to scoring was on 40 minutes when James Jam’s shot hit the cross bar.

Nothing could stop Jam from getting on to the score sheet five minutes after the break when he beat the offside trap to fire past Bere.

Two soon became three when Chivheya side-footed home direct from a corner-kick.

Muzokomba gave Buffaloes something to show for their efforts when he beat City goalkeeper Tafadzwa Dube with a low shot.

However, Kumwala restored City’s three-goal margin when he tapped in from a layoff by fellow substitute Francesco Zekumbawira who had done the entire job on the right channel.

With the game safe in the bag, Harare City coach Taurai Mangwiro introduced youngster Tatenda Tumba for his debut late on and the former Chemhanza High School student delighted the fans with silky skills.
