This year the British Council partnered with IIFF to support a documentary workshop led by award-winning, Ghanaian-British documentary filmmaker, Yaba Badoe, who has over 30 years in television and radio experience.

“The documentary workshop has been divided into theory and practical,” said the council in a statement.

Participants will be trained in genres of documentary filmmaking, principles of good story telling, stages of documentary film production and interview techniques.

“The workshop participants have already covered the opening night and will also cover the closing night on Saturday,” reads the statement in part.

“The hands-on experience was straight after theory to ensure that participants put to practice what they had learnt from Yaba Badoe.” Participants were drawn from various sectors including filmmaking, journalism, youth activism, law and development and were equipped with skills on how to relay stories within their own sectors using the powerful medium of motion picture.

“We are living in a time where storytelling has become very important, and we are grateful to get these skills because we can now tell our own stories as well as assist others,” said an excited participant, Blessing Hungwe.

“This will definitely leave a legacy in the industry, since we are working with a renowned filmmaker.”
