Hundreds of villagers, friends and relatives descended on the Munyavi homestead to pay their last respects to a man who spent his life eliciting laughter through his rib-cracking jokes and humorous pieces published in newspapers, particularly the column, A Lighter Look, published in The Sunday Mail.

Affectionately known as Baba Bruce after a character he depicted in the column, Munyavi was also a film star who featured in two installments of the of popular hillarious Gringo series.

“This funeral is unique because you can hardly see people breaking down in tears. It is a celebration of a man who was a comedian in the true sense of the word,” a fan who had driven all the way from Mutare said.

Among the pallbearers were former workmates Shepherd Mutamba and actor Taonga Mafundikwa, popularly known as CC in another ZTV soap Studio 263.

Mutamba, however, said it was disheartening that there were only three colleagues from the media and arts fraternity who attended the burial.

“Where has the love for one another gone to? From Nyaradzo Funeral Parlour to his house in Tynwald, there were only three or four people from these professions that Munyavi executed with great passion,” he said.

Munyavi is survived by his wife Agnes, three daughters and one son, Bruce and three grandchildren.
