Party sources said Zhuwao stepped down last week after it emerged that she would not survive the ongoing purge targeting Ziyambi’s sympathisers.

Beauty is Zanu PF politburo member Patrick Zhuwao’s wife.

Zhuwao yesterday confirmed her resignation, but said she had stepped down to “pursue some studies”.

“The resignation is not political. Why do you want to politicise every facet of life . . . I’m pursuing studies at the UZ (University of Zimbabwe,)” Zhuwao said.

The purge last month claimed the scalp of acting provincial Women’s League chairperson Joanne Tsongorani who was replaced by Angeline Muchemeyi.
