Mafu’s side salvaged a 1-1 draw against Triangle on Sunday to keep them in ninth position with 20 points while Triangle went one point shy of pole position with 28 points.

“Well, I play in the Premier League and at the end of the Premier League there is the championship,” said Mafu. “We are playing for that I want to play for that.”

Mafu continued: “I’m in the Premiership to win matches and play for the championship. What do you want me to say I’m no longer in the championship race? I cannot be saying that. I’m not going to say that.”

The BancABC-sponsored side has not performed well at Barbourfields having won only two games at home and that was against WhaWha 2-0 and Hwange 1-0 while they managed to get maximum points against Tsholotsho 1-0.

They drew against Harare City and How Mine 1-1 for both matches and lost to Caps United 1-0 and Chapungu on the same scoreline.

Mafu said there is need for his side to improve their performance at Barbourfields Stadium which is slowly becoming the whipping ground for the boys in black and white.

“I think we have a lot of improving to do especially at BF (Barbourfields). There are so many teams coming up here and I glad today (Sunday) we didn’t lose, but I think that games like this we should win,” he said.

He added that Triangle has been playing well they should “count our blessings a point playing a good team sometimes is something that we should be happy with.”

This weekend Bosso travel to Triangle to start the second half of the season.

Triangle coach Kelvin Kaindu said he was happy with his side’s performance since taking over at the Tongaat Hulett sponsored team.

“I am very happy. If you look at the last four years that I have been here I think Triangle has managed to surpass the goalscoring record that we had with Highlanders in the first three seasons. I think we are now on 31 goals which is good. We should keep on marching and scoring more goals,” he said.

Kaindu said he hopes his side does not lose focus as they go into the second round as most teams will be picking points during this half.

“I hope we don’t lose focus as the big guns will start picking up points. I think we have done well, but I think our away record hasn’t been good,” he said.
