Running under the theme “Innovation and Creativity for Socio-economic Transformation”, TIFAZ is expecting to attract a wider crowd as they have organised a family fun day off campus and have lined up renowned artistes including Prince Musarurwa and Diana Samkange to perform during the festival.

TIFAZ co-founder and chairperson Atanas Ruzive said despite financial challenges, they have planned this year’s festival to accommodate the community and showcase vast talent in tertiary institutions.

“This year, we have made a step outside our own backyards because we are beginning with a family fun day which will run for the whole day (at Masvingo Civic Centre) and we have brought in other artistes who are not college students to perform,” Ruzive said.

Ruzive encouraged promoters to embrace the talent in tertiary institutions and help upcoming artistes in carving their niche among the wide range of disciplines they are presenting.

He added that they have done workshops facilitated by art experts ahead of the festival to empower lecturers and students with current skills in their specific categories hence it will have a positive impact in the local arts sector.

Participants will compete in poetry, drama, traditional dance, mbira, marimba, African folk, electric band, drawing, graphic design, photography and culinary arts among others for the awards to be presented on August 4 at the official opening.

Secretary for Higher and Tertiary Education Science and Technology Development Machivenyika Mapuranga will officially open the festival.
