Nobuntu winds up Austria tour


ONE of Bulawayo’s much-adored all-female ensembles, Nobuntu Afro-Jazz Cappella, will on Saturday wind up its Euro Summer Tour with a last performance at Theatre am Spittelberg in Vienna, Austria, The group is set to arrive in Bulawayo on July 21.


Known for their sharp piercing voices, the group performed in close to 10 venues and their Facebook page has been awash with messages from their fans in Austria.

One of the group members, Zanele Manhenga, said they enjoyed the tour and were happy that their international audience followed them to most shows.

“We have been touring Austria and our audience has been following us from one venue to the other.

“We are happy that our music appeals to various audiences,” she said.

The group is known for their unique blend of music which is more of a cappella rooted in deep Zimbabwe culture.

Their strength also lies in how they fuse their variegated voices into one sweet melodic sound.

The well-travelled group has been to Germany and Austria among other countries and their performances have always left an indelible mark on audiences resulting in them touring the same countries almost on a yearly basis due to popular demand.

The all-female group comprises of Heather Dube, Thandeka Moyo, Zanele Manhenga, Duduzile and Joyline Sibanda.

However, the group has staged a few shows in the country.

Manhenga is the younger sister of Dudu Manhenga, one of the country’s prolific female jazz musicians.
