According to evidence led in the Civil Court, the couple broke up three years ago after marrying in 2008.
In his judgment, Harare magistrate Trevor Nyatsanza ruled in Mawona’s favour and ordered Gadzikwa to stop to physically or verbally abusing her.
In her evidence-in-chief, Mawona accused Gadzikwa of threatening to kill her if she failed to refund him his money.
“He hurls insults at me calling me a prostitute. He has even threatened to kill me if I do not pay back the money that he paid as bride price when we got married,” Mawona told the court. Mawona said her former husband had not been violent towards her until her recent pregnancy.
In his response, Gadzikwa accused Mawona of lying against him claiming they only separated last year when she dumped him saying he was “a good-for-nothing-man” because he was not employed whereas she was.
“I actually met some lady who knows her and she is the one who told me that my ex-wife had been impregnated after our separation,” Gadzikwa said.

He further told the court that instead it was Mawona who approached his workmate and lied to him that he (Gadzikwa) had dumped her upon impregnating her and his friend reprimanded her over her claims.
Gadzikwa also told the court that at one point he met Mawona’s brother and even asked him about his sister’s pregnancy, but when Mawona realised the two were amicably conversing she approached them and started hurling insults at him calling him impotent while advising her brother not to listen to him.
