The three-member ensemble will kickstart their performances at Mibawa Café in the capital before proceeding to Lilongwe, alongside Malawi’s Mafilika who are well known for their uniquely fused Afrojazz-rock-reggae sound.

In an interview with NewsDay, the Mambo Jesu singer promised not to disappoint by presenting a polished act when he takes to the stage.

“We are going to bring down the roof and there is no joke about that because it is an amazing thing to know that there are a whole lot of people who love your music outside the country, it spurs us on,” said Mel.

He also called upon willing corporates to partner him in the tour if they wish to cast their nets there.

His music is continuously gaining popularity outside the country and he attributed this to his unique style and the maturity in his lyrics.

“My music is doing very well out of the country and it is quite surprising but I think it is because we are trying to do stuff (music) that lasts for decades and not a single day,” he said as he highlighted that he will soon export his music for resale in Botswana.

Mel spent the whole of last month touring major radio stations in Botswana after a request by his fans there and to promote his music beyond the country’s borders, he is also set to do the same in Namibia next month.

Despite starting music in the early 80s and quashed plans to launch a debut album in the 90s, Mel has stayed resolute and he has released two albums in the past two years.
