VERSATILE musician Dino Mudondo, who rode the crest of a wave at the turn of the millennium before his music career took a dip, yesterday said it was still too early to write him off on the basis of his prolonged silence as he was dealing with personal affairs that demanded his undivided attention.

He said recording of his 18th album — which begins next Monday — will announce the return of the King of Rasta Kwasa into the game big time.

“People might think I’m no longer in the industry, but the truth is I’m still in the game. It’s only that I took close to one year without public performances following my father’s death last year. Being the first born, there were lots of things that demanded my attention,” he said.

The demands, Dino said, included running his late father’s farm and dealing with companies in which the older Mudondo had shareholdings.

“That was a lot of work, but the microphone kept calling me back and I’m back now,” he said.

The new eight-track album titled Pachipamwe, he said, will be released in October and will include the songs Sando, Chikopokopo, Chenaimoyo, Usazokangamwa Kupfeka, Anointing Water, 35, Mweya Wakanaka and Mainini.

Dino said the recording of the album will be done at Jah Prayzah’s JP Recording Studios.

The studio’s investment manager, Nigel Mushapaidze, confirmed the developments.

“Yes, we are doing Dino’s album and he is the second artiste to record at the new stable after Cynthia Mare,” he said.

The Makoi-koi hit-maker said his fans should expect “fireworks” as he was now back in the groove.

Mudondo sang his way into the limelight nearly a decade ago with hits such as Maidei, Chirangano, Paida Mwoyo and Rudo Rwechokwadi.
