The games will start on August 15 and end on August 23 in Mutare.

The minister is the patron of the local organising committee and is leaving no stone unturned to successfully host the prestigious event.

The fundraising committee has not done enough to raise about $1 million needed to host the games.

Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) Manicaland provincial co-ordinator Shupikai Berejena confirmed Chimene’s passionate plea before adding that preparations were now at an advanced stage.

“Minister Chimene is the patron of the local organising committee and has encouraged all the seven districts in the province to take heed and support the games by availing resources that are found in their provinces in terms of foodstuffs,” Berejena said.

“Take note that we haven’t raised much in terms of monetary value. At our fundraising event, we raised $3 700 and we need about $1 million, but I think most of our money to host the event will come from affiliation fees that are going to be paid by all the provinces. Each province will pay $80 per participant,” he added.

Berejena also added they had completed renovations at most of the venues that were going to host the games.

“Preparations are now at an advanced stage. Almost all venues are ready. I think our main venue, Sakubva Stadium, is the only facility where we are doing the renovations. Mutare City Council is helping us in going through the renovations.”
