Video: Grace Mugabe guns for Tomana

FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe yesterday emerged from a long hibernation to launch a stinging attack on Prosecutor-General Johannes Tomana, labelling him a paedophile after his controversial statements that 12-year-old girls can consent to sex.

BY OBEY MANAYITI

President Robert Mugabe’s 49-year-old wife used graphic language to launch a tirade at men who impregnate under-age girls and reserved most of her venom for the under-fire Tomana.

She was addressing thousands of people in Kadoma at a groundbreaking ceremony and commissioning of earthmoving equipment at Macsherp Holdings.

Macsherp is owned by Kadoma businessman and Zanu PF top Mashonaland West provincial politician Jimaya Muduvuri, who lost party primaries to Sanyati MP Blessed Runesu Geza in 2013.

Grace called for the immediate sacking of Tomana saying he was like a rapist who had no respect for women.

“Men, you are a problem and you don’t clearly understand. I have heard something — I don’t know if it’s true — that girls can be married at 12 years,” she thundered.

who will say that because a sane person who has children aged 10 years cannot expect to marry off that child in two years’ time. You will see the person saying such things, but later to say that I was misquoted — why were you saying that in the first place? We will hit you with clenched fists. I, Mrs Mugabe, I will kick him.”

Grace said besides her four biological children, she had adopted 88 others at her Mazowe orphanage with the oldest being six years old.

She said it was shameful to imagine that in six years’ time that girl could be married.

“That’s stupidity. That’s insane and I think the person has a rotten mind,” she added.

“In English, we call that person a paedophile.”

She said her husband had been successful in convincing apostolic sect members to respect human rights and dump retrogressive practices such as child marriages.

The First Lady also took a swipe at promiscuous men who impregnated many women and later abandoned their children.

She said if it was possible, she would have advocated to God for the existence of only a few men on earth who will be responsible for making women conceive through artificial insemination.

Grace was accompanied by the two Vice-Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko and severa Cabinet ministers including Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo.

Zanu PF politburo members were also present including youth affairs secretary Pupurai Togarepi and his deputy Kudzai Chipanga.

The Macsherp Holdings housing project is set to construct hundreds of low-income houses in Kadoma.

Speaker after speaker congratulated Muduvuri for setting up the multi-million dollar project.

Grace also doled out goodies to Kadoma residents and traditional chiefs that included food hampers of 2kg rice to everyone and tennis shoes and blankets to the elderly.

Her public appearances have been interspaced since spending several weeks in Asia recuperating from an appendix operation.

Unnecessary pressure to the NPA.It may end up affecting the performance and compromising the independence of the institution.

  3. Tomana haadzingike zvokumhanya check yourselves before you wreck yourselves

  4. I think Tomana was misquoted but he is to blame. You cannot explain law in Shona and cite examples like he did. But a critical mind can see that he had a point: He never said girls should consent to marriage at 12. He said they are marrying at 12 because that’s the only way out of their predicament and poverty. Mrs Mugabe is angry because Tomana’s statement bordered on saying the government has failed and is causing girls to marry early due to dropping out of school and having nothing to do by way of decent employment. He actually said: If a girl drops out of school and can’t find anything worthwhile to do, do you want her to wait until she is 21?

And Mrs Mugabe says men are a problem and GOD should have created just a few to facilitate artificial insemination. Is she sure about this? Amai, how many men have you shared emotions with in your life? Put this argument to the test: Do women only want sperms from men so that they produce children or they want men themselves. I think she is as reckless as Tomana. It’s the curse of our leadership. But I tell you Tomana’s days are numbered. Adios, Tomama, sorry Tomana.

    1. Bird's eye view

Brilliant analysis of the whole sequence of events. It’s clear any opportunity to divert attention from the real bread and butter issues will be taken with both hands. Difficult to see the scapegoat escaping but unfortunately maZimbo tisu Tomama and not Tomana

    2. Iwe gunguwo!

If the point in question is, if its okay for 14 year old girls to consent to sex without legal implications to the other party as the courts said, and the state prosecutor points out that “girls are marrying as young as 12 because of poverty” AND GOES ON TO SAY “If a girl drops out of school and can’t find anything worthwhile to do, do you want her to wait until she is 21?”

it means hes saying its okay that those 12 year old’s do anything to rid of poverty!!!! pluz ane dzakawanda dzaakavharira musangano Tomana tomuziva ngaabaye 1 less imbecile to worry about

  5. This imbecile called Tomana is gone. He should start packing his bags.

  6. Johannes Tomana is one person who is in the Constitution and may NEVER be ‘sack-able’ by anyone before that Constitution is amended. That was done to make it impossible for the MDCT to sack Tomana in the event that the party had won the 2013 harmonised elections.Amai ngavambomedza zvavo firiji apa.

  7. Good stuff.Tomana must go.
    He is stupid rapist.

  10. Tomana just explained that the law he is employed to enforce has loopholes. It is the work of the silly parliamentarians to ensure that important issues like these ones are debated and dealt with in the august house. Besides he was addressing lawyers and magistrates when he was quoted. This seems like a complex legal matter which shows that those politicising it are just illiterate ‘doctors’.

  11. If only she’ll take some time to go over her toxin she will realize what a shallow first lady she is. Such poor and foolish public exhibition of emptiness is not only an embarrassment to the first family but to the whole nation. I remain disappointed in that senile husband of hers we call a president.

the artificial insemination part is that a hint of some sort ?

  14. pakuti artificial insermination manje apo…..while there are plenty of bad irresponsible fathers out there, there are also plenty of good men out there who take their responsibilies so seriously…but God made in susch a way that women shall conceive in loving, healthy and caring relationnship…advocating for fewer men on earth would only promote polygamy and defeat the whole purpose of gender equity and women empowerment…just thinking aloud!!

  15. It is ease to criticise others after the fact is it not true that all women except your mother are potential prostitutes and all men your father included are potential rapist.

  16. I am not sure if she was serious about having fewer man on earth because she is well know for having different types of boyfriends.

  17. The worst first lady alongside a senile husband.

  18. Tomana tried to explain a prevalent social dilemma in a very unintelligent way. The conflict or disconnect between the law and the social realities that face the girl child, is what he was trying to explain. That he did a shoddy job of it and that his station demanded a coherent and clear statement of the situation is common cause. Should he be fired or should he resign because of it? Maybe. It is however irresponsible and embarrassing for a whole first lady to run her mouth on the issue in the manner that she does in the video. She sounds very trigger happy and pays no regard to all the issues that are relevant to this discourse, chief among which is the fact that, Mugabe destroyed this country and our kids especially the girl children are victims and the most vulnerable because of it. The law does not operate in a vacuum and in lawless Zimbabwe, the law has become a square peg in a round hole.
