FIRST Lady Grace Mugabe yesterday emerged from a long hibernation to launch a stinging attack on Prosecutor-General Johannes Tomana, labelling him a paedophile after his controversial statements that 12-year-old girls can consent to sex.

President Robert Mugabe’s 49-year-old wife used graphic language to launch a tirade at men who impregnate under-age girls and reserved most of her venom for the under-fire Tomana.

She was addressing thousands of people in Kadoma at a groundbreaking ceremony and commissioning of earthmoving equipment at Macsherp Holdings.

Macsherp is owned by Kadoma businessman and Zanu PF top Mashonaland West provincial politician Jimaya Muduvuri, who lost party primaries to Sanyati MP Blessed Runesu Geza in 2013.

Grace called for the immediate sacking of Tomana saying he was like a rapist who had no respect for women.

“Men, you are a problem and you don’t clearly understand. I have heard something — I don’t know if it’s true — that girls can be married at 12 years,” she thundered.

who will say that because a sane person who has children aged 10 years cannot expect to marry off that child in two years’ time. You will see the person saying such things, but later to say that I was misquoted — why were you saying that in the first place? We will hit you with clenched fists. I, Mrs Mugabe, I will kick him.”

Grace said besides her four biological children, she had adopted 88 others at her Mazowe orphanage with the oldest being six years old.

She said it was shameful to imagine that in six years’ time that girl could be married.

“That’s stupidity. That’s insane and I think the person has a rotten mind,” she added.

“In English, we call that person a paedophile.”

She said her husband had been successful in convincing apostolic sect members to respect human rights and dump retrogressive practices such as child marriages.

The First Lady also took a swipe at promiscuous men who impregnated many women and later abandoned their children.

She said if it was possible, she would have advocated to God for the existence of only a few men on earth who will be responsible for making women conceive through artificial insemination.

Grace was accompanied by the two Vice-Presidents Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko and severa Cabinet ministers including Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo.

Zanu PF politburo members were also present including youth affairs secretary Pupurai Togarepi and his deputy Kudzai Chipanga.

The Macsherp Holdings housing project is set to construct hundreds of low-income houses in Kadoma.

Speaker after speaker congratulated Muduvuri for setting up the multi-million dollar project.

Grace also doled out goodies to Kadoma residents and traditional chiefs that included food hampers of 2kg rice to everyone and tennis shoes and blankets to the elderly.

Her public appearances have been interspaced since spending several weeks in Asia recuperating from an appendix operation.
