Born Brandon Guzha, the 22-year-old musician has quickly adapted to modern ways of marketing his talent and has attracted listeners across the world through Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube.

Brandon told NewsDay that he discovered his talent while in primary school as he enjoyed movie soundtracks more than the actual movies.

“Back then my older brothers were more into RnB and soul music, which I listened to all the time and sang along and I would watch movies a lot but end up concentrating more on the soundtracks,” he said.

With three albums to his name — I Wanna Be, Hit Maker and the recent Mushauri Volume 2 — Brandon has a unique, versatile sound that enables him to rap, do RnB vocals and dancehall music chants.

His Youtube channel features tracks such as Kuchipa Kunge Bhero, Why Waenda and This is Love, which have attracted a huge following with statistics ranging between 2 000 and 5 000 views.

“I have released so many singles that way and I’m happy with the way one can actually market themselves and win through modern technology,” he said.

He said he has also worked with other local talents such as MacDonald “MacDee” Chidavaenzi, Dr Clarence, Muchi Mix, Fantan, T-Man from Mount Zion as well as recorded his last album with Trinidad and Gaanwid Studios.

Brandon said he was working tirelessly to acquire a personal PA system and band so that he could start performing in live shows as soon as possible.

“I’m happy that people are now interested in local music so much although there is also international music on the market,” he said.

“However I feel that local promoters need to up their game by promoting more artistes as brands rather than just their music for a particular show so that we also get in line with international standards because the truth is we have no excuse. It’s up to us to do it or not.”

Several people have compared his music to the likes of the international star, Romain Virgo.

United States-based DJ TeeLex has also compiled an appreciation mix for the talented musician called the Gee Brandon Appreciation mix on Soundcloud and currently in circulation on social media platforms.

“Gee Brandon is no doubt one of the best vocalists in Zimbabwe and in the history of Zim Dancehall,” said DJ TeeLex.
