DONGO Sawmill continued with their resurgence after they held their much-fancied opponents Chicken Inn in a thrilling Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Vengere Stadium yesterday.

They have already collected five points in their last three matches as the Premiership’s debutants are eager to fight relegation.

Chicken Inn took the lead in the 17th minute through a Bhekimpilo Ncube strike after benefiting from a defensive mix-up by the home side rear-guard.

However, the home side refused to be outdone as they replied through Physwell Madhanzi 20 minutes later.

Madhanzi headed home a long throw-in from veteran player Evans Chikwaikwai beating the visitors’ shot stopper Elvis Chipezeze. The home’s side assistant coach Dananai Chinowawa was happy with his side’s performance, saying they were still hopeful of surviving relegation.

“The boys are now growing in confidence and they are now appreciating the importance of collecting points at home. We are grateful that our supporters are coming in their numbers to support us and we are not going to disappoint them as we need to avoid relegation,’’ he said.

“We had a good game and we were unlucky not to have won the match especially in the second half, we had good chances some of which were cleared off the line,” he said.

His counterpart Joey Antipas blamed the pitch for the draw. “It was a good game, but the pitch was not good as we struggled to play our normal game. This affected the rhythm of my team big time, but collecting a draw away from home is good,” he said.
