Using the opportunity as a beauty queen, the 24-year-old Kamanura said it was her desire to help those who have now resorted to using cow dung and un-sanitised pieces of cloth as sanitary pads.

Kamanura told NewsDay after donating pads to women and girls in Epworth over the weekend that she was using her opportunity as a beauty queen and finalist in the Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe 2015 to ensure resources are mobilised and that girls in difficult financial situations get access.

“I was motivated after interacting with a young girl who started menstruating at nine and now she is 24. Doctors said it was some condition that needed attention. It got into me that something needed to be done to girls across the country and I have been to Seke, Epworth, Binga and throughout the country,” Kamanura said.

She said it was her dream to purchase a pad making machine one day and help supply the much needed commodity to underprivileged girls across the country.

“We gave pads to more than 200 women today and we are also giving away clothes and blankets. We are taking this to prisons as well,” she said.

Kamanura is working with several organisations that include Shamwari Yemwanasikana, Butterfly Foundation International, Heart of a Woman, talented gospel artist Evelyn Mhaga among others.

The Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe finals are on this weekend with 16 girls vying for honours.
