Corporal Tendai Togara has been arrested for allegedly chopping off his wife Martha Dondo’s head at Suri Suri Field Air Base after they quarelled over the custody of their two-year-old son.

Police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the incident Tuesday night saying Togara allegedly slit his wife’s throat using a knife.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of murder involving an Air Force of Zimbabwe officer,” Charamba said.

“We are appealing to people to resolve their differences amicably and not to resort to violence.”

She referred NewsDay to her immediate subordinate Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi for more details on the matter.

However, Nyathi’s mobile phone rang continuously unanswered.

Details of the gruesome murder were still sketchy by the time of going to print last night, but it is understood that the offence was committed last week.

Togara is expected to appear in court soon.

According to sources, Togara nand Dondo had been on separation.

On the day of the murder, they attended a civil court case over the custody of their son.

It is understood that Dondo, who was also an AFZ officer, was on duty on the day and was killed when she had gone home for a teabreak.

In another bizarre incident that has left villagers in Wedza shocked, a 35-year-old man exhumed the body of his baby and dumped the remains at his exwife’s doorstep to spite her for refusing his pleas for reconciliation.

Gift Bhaureni of Mutepe Farm 2 Mahalape in Marondera is in police custody and will appear in court soon facing charges of violating a grave.

According to police officers close to the investigations but who cannot not be named as they are not allowed to speak to the media, on July 25 at around 10pm, Bhaureni visited his ex-wife Nomatter Chimbare (28) of Schora Farm in Wedza.

The two had a misunderstanding as Bhaureni was demanding reconciliation, but Chimbare was against the idea.

On the same night, the argument intensified, forcing Chimbare to leave the homestead to seek refuge at her grandmother’s house at the same farm. Bhaureni allegedly went to a local graveyard where he exhumed the remains of their baby boy who had died during birth on June 30.

Bhaureni allegedly took the remains in a baby wrapper to Chimbare’s house where he dumped them on the veranda.

However, he was spotted by Chimbare’s sister Beaulah who alerted neighbours.

A report was made at Wedza Police Station the following day leading to Bhaureni’s arrest.

Chief Svosve reportedly facilitated the reburial of the baby’s remains at Schora Farm in Wedza.

Mashonaland East police could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.
