MANICALAND Provincial Affairs minister Mandi Chimene said she was not shaken by the derogatory remarks made against her and other top Zanu PF officials allegedly by then Higher Education minister Oppah Muchinguri in a secretly recorded audio tape leaked to the Press last week.

In the 45-minute clip, Muchinguri is also heard saying she would draw her rivals closer and strike them when they least expected it.
In the tape, Muchinguri alleged that President Robert Mugabe was unhappy with his appointment of Chimene and the manner she was conducting herself in the province.
She also allegedly accused Chimene of smoking dagga and bragging that she was so “uneducated” but used other people’s educational degrees to do her work.
Chimene was appointed Minister of State for Manicaland Province in December last year after her predecessor Chris Mushohwe was reassigned to the Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment ministry.
But Chimene yesterday said she would not lose sleep over the remarks.
“I neither drink nor smoke. I won’t be affected by what she (Muchinguri) said and I am not shaken at all. I don’t care about that (derogatory remarks) because only God matters and not what others think of me,” she said.

On strained relationships that might result following the leaked audio recording, Chimene said: “I am still the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.”
The followed allegations that Muchinguri was targeting Zanu PF deputy youth secretary Kudzai Chipanga, newly-elected Zanu PF Chikanga-Dangamvura MP Esau Mupfumi and other Zanu PF Manicaland provincial officials for a possible purge.
In the same tape, Muchinguri confessed that there were people who were bad-mouthing her to First Lady Grace Mugabe.
Several Zanu PF officials were allegedly plotting against each other to curry favour from the First Family as well as angling themselves in the succession matrix.
