Midfielder Physwell Madhanzi was the hero for the home side after drilling home a low shot into yawning nets with two minutes remaining on the clock before the end of duel.

Dongo fans had endured the untold suffering at home after losing seven matches. And yesterday they kept their faith on the team by coming in their numbers and were finally rewarded for their patience.

Dongo assistant coach Dananai Chinowawa dedicated the win to their fans.

“We are dedicating this win to our fans. They have been coming to support us despite us not playing well. Our fight against relegation is on and we are hopeful that we are going to avoid the dreaded chop,” he said.

WhaWha coach Lloyd Mutasa admitted they played badly.

“We lost the match because we failed to score and we could not create chances,” he said.

It was a tale of missed chances from the home side against an impotent Gweru side, who did not even register a shot at goal the entire afternoon.

Madhanzi missed a clear cut chance in the 86th minute when it was easier to score than miss, but he came right two minutes later.

This time around, he pounced on a mistake by the visitors’ defender Gift Kwaramba who failed to clear a loose ball and Madhanzi ghosted in from the blind side on the left flank before drilling home from an acute angle.

As if they had won a league championship he celebrated the goal by running towards to the home side fans stand and was joined by entire side’s technical department.
