Kanengoni-Malinga made the remarks while launching the second edition of the concert on Thursday evening at Club 1+1 located at Longcheng Plaza Mall in Belvedere, Harare.

“The Chinese Federation of Zimbabwe must be commended for playing a major role in promoting local arts. We have a lot of untapped talent that needs to be exposed and DreamStar Zimbabwe Talent Show has come at the right time as our youths look forward to showcase their talent,” Kanengoni-Malinga said.

“This concert will bring exposure to our youth with the winners set to travel to China in September and expected to bring knowledge and ideas that they will share upon their return.”

Contemporary musician Jah Prayzah was appointed the brand ambassador at the same event.

The Tsviriyo singer and his Third Generation Band put up a top notch performance, much to the delight of the audience, belting hits from his previous and new album.

Their fast-paced moves, well-choreographed army-like drills matching the rhythm of the music, created a revelling atmosphere as fans sang along and danced.

Event spokesperson Rumbidzai Matinanga told NewsDay that this year’s edition of the concert, which was aimed at identifying and exposing various talents from different ethnic communities in the country, was going to be bigger and better.

“This year, we are going to almost every province in Zimbabwe searching for talent because our aim is to nurture Zimbabwean talent from the grassroots. On July 24 we will be in Gweru and Chinhoyi, July 25, Bulawayo and Chitungwiza, July 31, Kwekwe and Marondera, while on August 1 we will be in Masvingo and Mutare,” she said.

“DreamStar Zimbabwe 2015’s winner will pocket $5 000, second prize is $3 000, and third prize is $1 000, with the top 10 finalists receiving $500 each. The top 10 finalists will travel to China and perform at some cultural exchange concert.”

Matinanga said about 40 people will travel to China courtesy of the CFZ.

“Last year we were supposed to fly the top three winners of the competition [Divine Chitubura was the overall winner of the competition, Dzivarasekwa-based dance group — The Incredibles — came second, while 18-year-old dancer Devante Sanganza came third] to China to showcase their talent at different cultural exchange programmes, but we failed due to in-house issues and the previous winners will be among the 40 representatives to travel to China during the last week of September,” she said.

Matinanga said the finalists will tour China for 10 days accompanied by Jah Prayzah and they will hold at least three shows, one in the capital Beijing, the other in Chengdu City in the centre of China.

Launched last year as Zim Got Talent by CFZ, the concert this year changed its name to DreamStar Zimbabwe Talent Show after the CFZ was embroiled in a name wrangle with Ke Nako Media who claimed to be the legitimate owners of the brand.
