THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has been taken to court by a local company, Century Technology (Pvt) (Ltd) over a $147 000 debt for services rendered last year.

According to court papers filed under case number HC2284/15, Zec and Century Technology entered into an agreement where the firm would supply Zec with jumbo envelopes and tents for by-elections. The parties agreed that Zec would pay the company in full, the total cost of the materials as per invoice upon delivery of the items.

The court heard in July last year, Century Technology delivered to Zec, envelopes worth $51 000 before delivering another consignment worth $96 600 in August of the same year. Century Technology told the court that Zec had acknowledged the debt in a letter dated January 23, 2015.

But Zec in its response to the summons, argued that Century Technology was not a recognised legal persona and as such was incapable of instituting legal proceedings against it. The matter is still pending at the High Court.
