His brother, Milton Webb Ndlovu, confirmed the burial yesterday morning.

“The service for Mephias will be held at home (50214/3 Mpopoma Flats) at 9am. We will then have speakers from the football fraternity and family after which we will proceed to Bango Grounds where he collapsed. I don’t know what rituals the football people want to perform there. We will then proceed to Lady Stanley Cemetery where he will be buried at 11am and hopefully from 12:30pm to 1pm we will be done and return home,” Ndlovu said.

Webb’s career in top-flight football started in 1997 up to 2009, playing briefly for Highlanders and for a lengthy period with Njube Sundowns, a team he captained from 1998 to 2009.

He also played for Railstars and Masvingo United and coached Ajax Hotspurs.

At the time of his death, Webb was assistant coach to Philani “Beefy” Ncube at Southern Region Soccer League side Bulawayo City.

He is survived by wife Sichelesile, daughter Melisa (16) and son Mephias Junior (2).
