Mnangagwa and Mphoko told a joint rally in Tsholotsho North on Sunday that Tsholotsho had suffered from over 20 years of neglect because the ruling party lost elections in the area.

“This is a shocking revelation that flies in the face of the founding provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe that clearly states that ‘Zimbabwe is a unitary, democratic and sovereign republic’,” MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said.

He said Zanu PF’s discriminatory policies had impoverished Zimbabwe.

“The majority of Zimbabweans find themselves living in abject poverty and destitution simply because the crumbling and faction-ridden Zanu PF regime has over the years practised discriminatory policies that ensured that the wealth of the nation is only enjoyed by a few politically well-connected individuals,” Gutu added.

He said Mnangagwa and Mphoko were trying to cause fear in Tsholotsho North ahead of tomorrow’s by-election where Zanu PF candidate Jonathan Moyo is battling to retake the seat.

“These two men are bent on spreading alarm and despondency within the country in general and in Tsholotsho North in particular,” Gutu said.

“As agents of a collapsing and deeply unpopular regime, Mnangagwa and Mphoko are determined to instil fear in the hearts of the people of Tsholotsho North”.

Former Zanu PF spokesperson Rugare Gumbo said the VPs had inadvertently revealed the ruling party’s discriminatory agenda.

“They are the ruling party and government. They cannot have selective development of communities or constituencies,” he said.

“A government is a government of everyone, regardless of political affiliation.

“It should serve the interests of everyone the same way MPs should also do. They should represent the interests of everyone in their constituencies.

“Mnangagwa and Mphoko’s utterances are very unfortunate.”

Zanu PF sparked outrage last month when it distributed flyers in Bulawayo claiming the city had not been part of Zimbabwe for the past 15 years because it had voted for the opposition.
