TSCZ Midlands regional manager Claudius Muzuva said drivers should participate in educational courses and events that promoted safe driving.

“The more we train the drivers, the safer they are on the roads. They should get retested as often as possible to make sure they are sharp-minded,” Muzuva said.

Gweru held the Midlands province’s driver of the year competition at Chaplin High School on Saturday, where drivers would manoeuvre through different obstacles simulating structures like garages, swing gates and fuel stations.

After manoeuvring through these obstacles, the drivers would go on an inspected road test where they would be assessed on their driving skills and would be awarded points.

Muzuva explained that the purpose of this competition was to teach drivers accuracy when driving on public roads.

“We encourage accuracy on the road, which is why we are using these everyday obstacles like parking garages and petrol stations to measure if the drivers can keep safe distances from these obstacles,” Muzuva said.
