National police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said the first incident occurred on June 5 in Chief Saunyama’s area while the other one happened in Buhera under Chief Makumbe’s area.

“The first incident occurred on June 5 at around 1800 hours in Chief Saunyama’s area, Nyanga. The suspect and the now deceased, who were brothers, had a misunderstanding which resulted in a fistfight,” said Charamba. “The suspect picked up stones and hit his elder brother once on the head. He fell down and became unconscious.” Charamba said the victim was rushed to hospital where he died on June 3.

“The second incident occurred on 12 June at around 2100 hours when a male adult aged 27, who resides in Chief Makumbe’s area, Buhera, had a misunderstanding with his wife,” she said.

“The two went to sleep and at around 0200 hours on 13 June 2015, the accused woke up and struck his wife with an axe once on the head. She died instantly.”

Charamba said the husband surrendered himself to the police after the incident.

She urged members of the public to solve their disputes amicably and not resort to violence. “They should seek counselling from the police, church elders and other local leaders,” she said.
