Nash selects volleyball teams for Cosassa games

The teams will be announced later this week. Luveve High, St Columbus and Eveline, all from Bulawayo, faced nine other provincial champions.

National head in charge for volleyball Perpetua Masarira said: “We will use the tournament to select the best team to represent us at the Confederation of School Sport Associations of Southern Africa games (Cosasa) games that will be staged in Bulawayo in August”.

“We had a team of selectors during the two days and from there we will arrange a camp for the players so they prepare for the Cosasa games, “she said.

“In these games, schools were fully prepared and coaches took heed of the fact that players should be tall and fit which is exactly what I have seen. The athletes played well, there is a lot of improvement in the tournament because most rural schools have been dominating this year.

“We have been adhering to the Federation of International Volleyball professional standards and rules. Zimbabwe Volleyball Association has been supporting us, which is a good thing and we thank them.”

In the girls’ category Mnene beat Chivi 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-13 and 25-20) in the final. Mnene had dismissed Pamushana 2-0 (25-9 and25-7) in the semifinals and Masarakufa 2-1 (15-5, 12-15 and 15-11) in the quarter finals.

Mnene coach Crispen Chibhira was overwhelmed by the talent in his team.

“I’m impressed and it was my wish that the team does well and I’m thankful to all those who gave us support. The team won most of the games they played,” he said.

In the boys category, Makumbi beat Luveve 2-0 in the semifinals and Churchill defeated Chivi 2-0 .In the final Churchill beat Makumbi 3-0.
