RODERICK Mutuma has quit Harare giants Caps United again with reports suggesting he is eying a move to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) where an unnamed club has shown interest in him.

Informed sources said Mutuma tendered his second resignation last week, and the Caps United hierarchy was reported to be considering the letter.

Caps United chief executive Joe Makuvire was not available for comment yesterday, but it is understood Mutuma did not travel with the team to Mozambique where they played an international friendly against Chingale de Tete.

Caps United won 2-1 at Estadio do Tete on Sunday.

Mutuma has not been training with the team since their return from Mozambique.

“Mutuma wrote a letter of resignation last week. We understand there is a club in DRC which he wants to join. The chief executive is currently seized with the matter,” a source close to the developments said.

Caps United coach Mark Mathe declined to discuss the issue surrounding the former Dynamos striker, referring questions to Makuvire.

Mutuma’s manager Edzai Kasinauyo was due to meet the player late yesterday.

Last month, Mutuma announced he had quit the Green Machine over non-payment of outstanding salaries and allowances as the Harare giants experienced cash flow problems.

He revealed he was keen to join Bulawayo giants Highlanders, but when Farai Jere came on board as the major shareholder, Mutuma appeared to show remorse and was eventually readmitted into the team.

The development came as Caps United prepared for a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League showdown against Harare City at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow.

The Harare giants are fretting over the fitness of some of their key players Hardlife Zvirekwi, Carlton Munzabwa and George Nyirenda who failed to travel to Mozambique as they were nursing some injuries.

Mathe said the players had started light training and would have to pass a late fitness.

“At Caps United, we don’t have fringe players and all the players that played and won a friendly match in Mozambique are equally good players. For those that stayed behind, it had to do with their injuries with the exception of Mutuma. The trip to Mozambique was meant for bonding, players getting to know each other. Nothing has changed in terms of our target since the departure of Mark Harrison. All we want is to compete, to be up there. We want players who are aware that Caps United is a big brand and are eager to play for a big brand,” Mathe said.

However, the Caps United gaffer was cautious ahead of the clash against Harare City, describing them as favourites.

“It will be a very difficult match. It’s like a derby because these are teams from the same city and players know each other. But let me hasten to say that Harare City start as favourites. They have got quality players and one of the best coaches in the country. They are one of the teams that have been very consistent and had cohesion before the break,” Mathe said.

The match is one of the two that would be screened live on SuperSport.

The big clash between Dynamos and Highlanders on Sunday will also be screened on SuperSport.
