Mnangagwa promises more expulsions

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa

Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday warned that more heads will roll in Zanu PF as the party seeks to cleanse itself of members allegedly plotting to topple President Robert Mugabe.

Addressing hundreds of Zanu PF supporters at a campaign rally for the party’s Hurungwe West candidate Keith Guzah ahead of the June 10 by-elections, Mnangagwa said Zanu PF would only respect those who respect its constitution.

Guzah is contesting against ousted former Zanu PF provincial chairperson Temba Mliswa, who is standing as an independent candidate.

Mnangagwa said it was only through voting Zanu PF that people would enjoy their liberation.

“We fought for our liberation and we can only safeguard it through voting for the right candidates,” he said.

“We were enlightened by (First Lady) Grace Mugabe of what was happening in the party in the build-up to the congress and the party had to act.

“You had Mliswa and we want to apologise that we failed to see that he was a renegade.

“We fired him because we had no faith in him and because of his activities.

“Zanu PF is like an elephant which is not scared of anything, even a barking dog.”

Mliswa was fired from the party together with his uncle, former Presidential Affairs minister Didymus Mutasa, for allegedly conniving with former Vice-President Joice Mujuru as well as several other party gurus in a plot to unseat Mugabe.
