Mushapaidze has been roped in as Jah Prayzah’s new manager after the sacking of Filda Muchabaiwa two weeks ago.

In an interview yesterday, Mushapaidze said he was determined to make the award-winning outfit an internationally recognised brand.

“It is my dream and wish, not taking away what others have already done, to make this brand (Third Generation Band) internationally recognised just like what the legends, Oliver Mtukudzi and Thomas Mapfumo have done in raising our flag high,” he said.

“We want to take music as business that is able to bring better livelihoods among our band members. I have to make sure that band members are happy because that will encourage them to work hard.”

He said he has been with the Third Generation outfit since 2013 in the public relations department dealing mainly with corporates.

The former University of Zimbabwe student was employed at a local bank as a clerk before taking over management of the Third Generation Band.

He said promoters and corporates who had booked for shows under Muchabaiwa must not be worried as they were going to honour contracts and fulfil the gigs under the new leadership.

“The split, of course, could have affected some of our partners and fans who were aligned to Filda, but that must not affect the band since it is now water under the bridge,” he said.

He also dismissed rumours going around that stage manager Mabla 10 was facing the axe.

“Mabla 10 is still with us and as far as I am concerned there are no plans to send him packing,” he said.

Though it was not clear what led to the fallout between Jah Prayzah and Muchabaiwa, insiders claimed the former manager could have angered the band leader by her management role with upcoming musician Andy Muridzo, breaching her contractual obligations.

Mushapaidze has also refused to comment on the matter saying it was currently being handled by the musicians’ lawyer Edwin Hamunakwadi.
