I miss Dhewa: Macheso

SUNGURA ace Alick Macheso said he misses the late musician Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, whom he described as “a loving friend”.

Macheso said every time he staged shows, he recalled how he used to do joint performances with Dhewa, who died at 43 on October 15 2011 after a long battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“Tongai was my best friend and I always remember him every time when I am on stage. That is why I often play his songs during most of my shows,” he said.

“Without Tongai, I feel that I am alone.”

Macheso paid tribute to Dhewa during his performance at New Life Night Club in Budiriro where he gave a top-drawer performance.
He assured his fans he was finalising the new album which he wanted to be perfect.

“We are working on the new stuff and we are almost done. We have completed all the donkey work and we are now just making final touches,” he said.

“We took a bit of time on the production because we want it to be of high quality so that it can be enjoyed for a long time.”

Macheso and Dhewa had their last joint show at the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza before his death. Although the two were often compared, there was no consensus on who was the best.
