The Masvingo-based independent film producer, who has just wrapped up the production of a television series titled Eleven PM — which is expected to hit the small screen soon — said it was not fair for the airwaves to be dominated solely by Harare productions.

“We are trying to showcase the talent in our province so we are appealing to ZBC to also consider productions from small towns like Masvingo,” Chombe said.

“We cannot only be watching all programmes by Harare-based producers. We have good productions from all parts of the country which need to be given the platform to air.”

Chombe said the series, sub-themed Teen Hustle, captured the roller coaster life in modern-day Zimbabwe as teenagers face an uncertain future and make efforts to survive the environment charged with high unemployment and opportunism.

The story is centred on a character called Brandon, a skilled, upcoming dancer who loses his parents in a car accident which also leaves his brother and partner crippled.

After losing his parents and having to take care of his crippled brother, he loses his passion for dancing, but his life takes a new twist when he is approached by a group of teenagers seeking a choreographer to help them with their dances.

Apart from just helping them ahead of their participation in a dance competition, he takes them out of a destructive life path.

“Having a set of his own demons to deal with, he feels uninspired to take up the offer. His brother, however, manages to change his mind. Will they be able to conquer their demons or succumb to the economy autophagy? One has to watch the series,” Chombe said.

Eleven PM features Tatenda Chibaya as Junior, Brandon Yusufu as Richo, Susan Shumba as Tendai, Charles Muzambe as Charlie B and Innocent Makonese as Trigga.

Vimbai Mbire is the executive producer.

Music featured in the production was done by Cherub Music Factory. Chombe said he was confident that the series would even make it on platforms like DStv’s Africa Magic and Zollywood.
