ZIMBABWE could be in line for a new convener of selectors before the start of the upcoming limited-overs cricket series against India, with a former first-class player Kenyon Ziehl expected to take over from Givemore Makoni.

Ziehl’s appointment, however, awaits ratification by the Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) board after his recommendation by the cricket committee which met in the capital yesterday, while Makoni is set to be reassigned to another post within the ZC structures.
ZC managing director for cricket affairs Alistair Campbell confirmed that the committee met yesterday, but declined to comment on Makoni’s future.
“Yes, the cricket committee met today (yesterday), but I’m not in a position to discuss the outcomes. I cannot comment on that because the selection convener is a board appointment. The cricket committee can only make recommendations which would then need to be ratified by the ZC board,” Campbell said.
Sources told NewsDay Sport that the cricket committee which sat yesterday made several recommendations with the major highlight being position of selection convener. Ziehl is no stranger to the position as the 52-year-old Midwest Rhinos franchise administrator previously held that position between 2006 and 2009.
Meanwhile, former Zimbabwe all-rounder Andy Blignaut could be set to make a comeback in the ZC structures as coach for the national Under-19 side after he was also recommended by the cricket committee. Blignaut, who played 19 Tests, 54 one-day internationals and a T20 for Zimbabwe and is the current coach of Peterhouse College in Marondera, is expected to take over from Walter Chawaguta, who has since been re-assigned to the Under-16 side.
