“It was tough playing in the tournament but as a team we managed to get to the final. We wasted a lot of chances during the match that is why we lost the game,” said the 18 year-old Upper Six student formerly with Chicken Inn juniors.

He said the awards meant a lot to him as it showed that he was improving in his game and would want to play in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) or the English Premier League.

“I am advancing in my game and I would like to play in the PSL someday. At the moment I am not playing much football because I am in Upper Six and I have to concentrate on my school work. I would want to be a professional player and if given the chance play in the English Premier League,” he said.

In the girls’ final Sojini beat Magwegwe 1-0 to with Monalisa Mxoli taking the Top Goalscorer and Player of the Tournament awards.

Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko who was guest of honour at the event said: “Taking care of young people, investing in youth development and safe guarding their future is a priority for the government. Through education training and other programmes young people must feel cared for and government is committed to this but government cannot do it alone. What Orap and Auto World have done is remarkable. They have committed themselves in difficult times to bring us to support our young people.”

Mphoko said there was need for more players in the private sector to invest in supporting schools.

“We need more people in the corporate world to partner with organisations like Orap and government. The private sector has a lot to gain by making social investments. Supporting schools means a better educated workforce. I urge business communities to put their muscle behind community development just like Auto World have done in partnership with Orap,” he said.
