BUFFALOES coach Joseph Takaringofa could not stop smiling as his team walloped visiting WhaWha in a lukewarm Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match played at Sakubva Stadium yesterday.

“It’s nice to collect maximum points at home and I am happy that the players are now understanding what I am teaching them at training. I hope they will continue with the good form,” said Takaringofa.

Buffaloes’ breakthrough came in the 43rd minute when goal-bound striker Vincent Makaha was pulled down by Gibson Madamombe in the box and Harare-based referee Pedzisai Chadya pointed to the spot. The home team’s dead-ball specialist Farai Banda took the task to give the home side the lead.

In the second half, Buffaloes played more purposeful football as they increased their pace towards the WhaWha goal area thanks to the tactical substitution by Takaringofa.

Substitutes Roy “Apama” Mwenga and the exciting Barnabas Mushunje both attacking midfielders raised the tempo of the game as they contributed much to the game.

In the 67th minute, veteran Buffaloes striker Jacob Muzokomba sent through Makaha, who did justice to the through pass and cleverly placed the ball in the far right corner giving the goalkeeper no chance.

In the 78th minute WhaWha coach Lloyd Mutsa was sent off to the terraces for dissent against the first assistant referee Asmah Mataya.

Buffaloes continued dominating the midfield and were awarded a free kick on the left flank in the 92nd minute.

Kudzanai Mwaramba took responsibility to take the free kick that he marvelously squared to an unmarked Lloyd Katongomara who spectacularly tapped the ball home with a back-heel torching some wild celebrations from the home fans.

In a post-match interview Mutasa was clearly a disappointed man.

“It’s sad. I cannot say anything on things that I do not have control on. I cannot comment on things that will see me in trouble and end up being summoned. The penalty and the referees’ decision were for everyone to see that they were wrong decisions,” said Mutasa.
