Vendors and opposition parties have vowed to defy a seven day ultimatum by the military to vacate all undesignated sites in various cities and towns.

The MDC-T said it is coordinating efforts to confront the army if it goes ahead to forcibly remove thousands of informal traders who have invaded most streets in Harare.
“We want to organize vendors to fight back. These are citizens trying desperately to eke out an honest living in an environment with no other means of survival. Instead of turning the military against the people Mugabe should create the jobs he promised,” MDC-T secretary-general, Douglas Mwonzora told NewsDay.
“It is unfair for the government to harass citizens trying to earn a living and we will help them assert their rights even if it means confrontation.”
