Jah Prayzah and his trimmed Third Generation band members only left on Saturday afternoon amid reports that the promoter of the show had struggled to buy the required tickets on time, forcing the cancellation of a show at which he was billed to perform at Maher Centre, Leicester, on Saturday.

Sources told NewsDay that Y2K Entertainment Promotions wanted to use proceeds from the Oliver Mtukudzi and Tocky Vibes gig at London Royal Regency, which was part of the same Sama concert, to buy air tickets for Jah Prayzah’s trip, but the show flopped.

Initially, the Kumbumura Mhute hit singer and part of his band were expected to depart on June 25 for the concert and return on June 29.

Jah Prayzah’s manager Keen Mushapaidze confirmed the developments, but said the situation was beyond their control.

“It is true that Jah Prayzah and some band members failed to travel on Thursday as scheduled resulting in the cancellation of the Saturday show because the promoter was yet to buy air tickets,” Mushapaidze said.

“Although the situation had become tricky that we had considered cancelling the tour at the 11th hour, the guys left on Saturday as we respected our fans who had already purchased their tickets in advance.”

Jah Prayzah on Saturday also took to social network Facebook explaining the cancellation of the Liecester show.

“Just boarded the plane to London, it’s been a while, but we could not let the fans down even after all the hassles we went through to get there, we are getting there,” he wrote.

“Unfortunately I will not be making it to the Leicester show as advertised, wish you all the best and fun and save some energy for tomorrow.”

Mushapaidze said the Uzumba-bred award-winning musician and part of the band arrived in the UK safely yesterday morning ahead of a one-day family show in Coventry.

They are expected back in the country on Wednesday.
