Last year’s joint Golden Boot award winner Kudakwashe Musharu opened the scoring in the 11th minute to get his second goal of the season with a header past a suspect Hwange goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda from a set-piece by Wonder Sithole on the edge of the box on the right after referee Allen Basvi, had censured the visitors’ goalkeeper for collecting a back-pass.

Hwange replied in the 24th minute through Newman Sianchali, who connected from inside How Mine’s goal area from teammate Evans Rusike’s path with the latter advancing towards goal after dribbling past a number of the gold miners’ defenders on the right.

Hwange were then all over How Mine, controlling the midfield and piling up pressure, but the goals were not coming.

Nine minutes after the break, goalkeeper Sibanda fumbled on a Sithole cross and failed to safely collect an otherwise harmless-looking ball and Limited Chikafa pushed the ball into the back of the net with ease to decide the match.

With the win, How Mine remain on position four with 25 points, but coach Luke Masomere was not amused with his boys’ performance.

“I am really relieved we managed to collect the full set of points, but I think Hwange played better football. It is unfortunate that they lost. We were just lucky. Our defenders were always second to the ball and we struggled to contain them. It was a bad game for us, but football is all about winning,” Masomere said.

Hwange also remained stuck on position 12 with 14 points with gaffer Nation Dube saying it will come right for the coal miners any time soon and they will definitely survive the chop from top-flight football.

“It was a good game. We missed a lot of chances. We controlled the match and we were on top of the situation. We will survive relegation. The victories will come. One of these days, the win will come,” Dube said.

In another match played at White City Stadium, visiting Flame Lily held Tsholotsho FC to a 1-1 draw.

Flame Lily scored first through Virimai Mukudo in the 53rd minute with Lynoth Chikuhwa equalising for Tsholotsho three minutes later.
