Lawyer Stanley Nyamanhindi is of the conviction that a strong legal profession is the basis of a strong and independent judiciary that upholds justice and the rule of law.

munya He wants to use his participation at the Mandela Washington Fellowship to share his experiences in Zimbabwe as well as learn from the experience of other young leaders in different African countries.

During his six-week fellowship Stanley will be stationed at the University of Dartmouth where his immediate goal is to “grasp the academic and professional bolts and nuts that the Civic Leadership track at the University offers. Coupled with that is to harness the attendant network to technically backstop all my efforts during and after the Fellowship for maximum exposure.”

Stanley manages the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) department at the Legal Society of Zimbabwe Secretariat. He joined the organization in 2007 as an intern. He has worked to encourage “the establishment of the first formal professional development framework for the legal profession in Zimbabwe through pushing for appropriate law reform and setting up enduring systems and structures to make it sustainable.” His current ambition is “to see the success of the recently launched continuous legal professional development programme to enhance recognition of high standards within Zimbabwe’s legal profession and guarantee the independence of the profession.”

In pursuing his passion Stanley has facilitated and offered his services to other law based organizations like the Law Development Commission (LDC), Zimbabwe lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), the Legal Resources Foundation (LRF), the Zimbabwe Electoral Services Network (ZESN) and the Council for Legal Education (CoLE). On an international level his work has seen him collaborate with other organizations including the International Bar Association (IBA), International Advocacy Training Council (IATC) particularly with its membership from the Bar Council of England & Wales and the Johannesburg Bar.

Other international collaborations include commercial law training with the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP) driven by members of the American Bar Association. Despite his busy schedule in the legal world, Stanley finds time to participate as Charter President at the Campus Lions Club based at a local university. He is also a member of ZLHR and sits on the Zimbabwe Legal Information Institute’s (ZimLII) steering Committee.

Stanley holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree attained at the University of Zimbabwe. You can follow his MWF experience on twitter @snyamanhindi
