THE opposition MDC Renewal Team’s ad-hoc committee, chaired by former Dzivaresekwa MP Solomon Madzore, has recommended the suspension of the party’s treasurer-general Elton Mangoma for allegedly dragging the name of the party into disrepute and fanning factionalism.

The committee also recommended that Mangoma’s “accomplices” should face unspecified disciplinary action.

This follows reports that Mangoma allegedly snatched a fellow party member Believe Tevera’s wife and unleashed his loyalists to physically assault his rivals.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Mangoma said he only received a message from Madzore inviting him for a meeting today and was shocked to hear that they had suspended him.

“It shows you the kind of people we are dealing with. I only received a message today that I come tomorrow, but it seems they had their answer already,” he said. “It’s a kangaroo court and I won’t waste time on that.”

The party said: “From our findings above, we are satisfied on the facts provided before us that Mangoma has committed serious offences and that Believe Tevera could have handled himself better, but he is more sinned against than being the sinner.”

Mangoma was accused of fuelling divisions in the party causing “serious dysfunctionality of the party” following his recent claims that the opposition outfit was headed for a split.

The committee equated Mangoma’s alleged “unbridled ambitions” to actions of a “suicide bomber who blows himself before the mission is accomplished”.
