The inaugural awards which recognise outstanding youths below the age of 35 will be held at the Harare International Conference Centre and will be held in accordance with the Zimbabwe Youth Council Act.

ZYC executive director Livingston Dzikira said the objective of the awards was to motivate young people and to honour outstanding achievement. The awards cover both individual and organisational outstanding performance.

“These individuals and organisations who will receive national colours must have excelled exceptionally well in their fields of effort, to the extent of having lifted the national flag or brought undoubted recognition of our country on either regional or international platforms,” he said.

“We appeal to all citizens in and outside the country to contribute to this process by nominating the individuals or organisations they think have done well for the country over the past years. This process will be blind to race, gender, religion or political persuasion.”

The different categories include sports, entrepreneurship, arts, academia, agriculture, community service, youth service, youth ambassador, media, tourism and hospitality, and youth development, among others.

A team of adjudicators has also been lined up for the vetting process and will be supervised by a group of auditors to the process.

ZYC has partnered AB Communications, incorporating ZiFM and Mighty Movies, in organising the event.
