ZVA secretary-general Ringisai Mapondera confirmed the development to NewsDay Sport yesterday.

“We have trimmed the team of 36 members to 24 in preparation for the All-Africa qualifiers and the teams started their final camp today (yesterday) at Support Unit. They will end preparations on May 3 the day they are expected to leave the country for Botswana’s capital Gaborone,” he said.

“This year we want to break a record and I’m confident that the indoor volleyball teams will do well, we have professionals in the teams. I can say the camp is useful for team codification otherwise we have the best teams who are skilled.”

He said six countries are expected in Botswana and the two best will book a slot for All Africa Games.

“Six countries expected at the qualifiers are the host Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Zambia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, the top countries will be selected for the All-Africa games which are set for Congo-Brazzaville from September 4 to 19,” he added.

The senior women’s team is under the guidance of Vulindlela Moyo who is being assisted by Kudzai Muzondo while Itsanang Abu Basutu and his assistant Macdonald Chatemana are the senior men’s team coaches.
