PARLIAMENT will this week scrutinise curriculum vitaes (CV) of Air Zimbabwe’s top managers and board members amid suspicion that some of them were ill-qualified for the posts they held.

Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Transport and Infrastructural Development Dextor Nduna yesterday confirmed that his committee will today sit in order to have a look at the CVs of Air Zimbabwe management and then present a report to the National Assembly in two weeks’ time.

“The committee wants to make sure that the airline is endowed with the right brains for the aviation sector because we are taking no chances and want to ensure it is resuscitated in order to play a part in the economic turnaround of the country,” Nduna said.

“If we do not have the right brains in the airline, we will be putting money meant to resuscitate it into the drain and we will be back to square one,” he said.
Nduna said the main reasons why his committee asked for CVs of the Air Zimbabwe board and management was that when they appeared before the committee in March, the MPs felt their evidence was shallow.

“We felt the information that we were being given by the board and management of Air Zimbabwe was shallow and that their strategies to resuscitate the comatose airline were not convincing. The committee felt that we needed to further interrogate their qualifications and that is why we asked them to hand over their CVs,” he said. “Air connectivity is very pivotal if we are to resuscitate our transport infrastructure. If minerals are going to be beneficiated, they will need transportation and air transport will be necessary.”

The Air Zimbabwe board, which was appointed in 2013 and expected to turn around the airline, comprises Ozias Bvute (chairperson), Gabriel Mugabe as his deputy, Michael Hove, Farai Chikono, Laura Gwatiringa, Captain Alex Makanda, and Locadia Majonga.

  2. So what transpired at the committee session yesterday. we will wait for their report to come in two weeks but we want your report of what went down now!!!!!!

This is a great case of why board members for parastatals should be publicly interviewed by the portfolio committee responsible for the sector in which the parastatal operates and then a short list of names of the successful candidates forwarded to the minister to select the composition of the board.
