MPs chide Maridadi, Zwizwai for ‘sexist’ comments

TWO MDC-T male MPs — James Maridadi (Mabvuku/Tafara) and Murisi Zwizwai (Harare Central) — were on Thursday berated by their fellow legislators and temporary Speaker, Memory Dziva, over their alleged “sexist” comments which were perceived as offensive.
Maridadi was reprimanded after he claimed that Dziva had a pretty face.

This was after Dziva had ordered the Mabvuku/Tafara MP to speak through the chair while addressing Parliament.

“I could not have looked at anybody else and not look at you, Madam Speaker, given that you are very lookable,” Maridadi said in response.

This irked Mutasa South MP Irene Zindi (Zanu PF) who immediately raised a point of order saying the statement by Maridadi was sexist and must be withdrawn.

Maridadi later withdrew the remarks.

Moments later, Zwizwai offended the Speaker when he shouted ”Who will you kiss with that long beard?” in an apparent jibe directed at Bikita West MP Munyaradzi Kereke (Zanu PF)’s long beard.

Kereke just laughed off the remark, but it did not go down well with Dziva who asked him to withdraw the statement, which he also did.

Recently, Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda warned MPs to desist from making frivolous remarks and interjections, as well as calling for unmerited point of orders.
